The Henderson Symphony Orchestra Performs
"A French Valentine" Concert
February 7, Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall, UNLV

The Henderson Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Artistic Advisor and Conductor Taras Krysa, will present “A French Valentine” featuring one of the greatest symphonic masterpieces, French composer Hector Berlioz’ Symphony Fantastique.

Also on the program will be a series of songs by Frenchman Joseph Canteloube. The composer’s popular Songs of the Auvergne is well-known for its picturesque portrayal of the mountainous and beautiful Auvergne region of central France. The soloist will be Las Vegas soprano Athena Mertes. Henderson Symphony Orchestra Concertmaster Patrick Hsieh will perform an additional French valentine, Gabriel Fauré’s Berceuse for violin and orchestra.

The concert, the second in the orchestra’s Masterworks Series of concerts, will be performed at Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall on the campus of UNLV on Saturday, February 7, at 7:30 pm. Tickets, which will go on sale soon, will be $20 for adults; $10 for seniors, active military, first responders; free for all students with school ID and children under age 12. Prices are inclusive of all taxes and fees.

“I especially like this program because of the wide variety of orchestral colors the audience will be able to experience,” said Music Advisor Taras Krysa. “The Symphony Fantastique allows several members of the orchestra to take solo turns and other sections of the orchestra to play their instruments in unusual ways. The overall effect is a brilliant, technicolor display of sound.”
