Join us for an evening under the stars at Lake Las Vegas

Featuring the music of Mozart, DvoÅ™ák, and Verdi

The Henderson Symphony Orchestra launches its Masterworks Series with a delightful program at the beautiful Sports Club at Lake Las Vegas. Free seating on the lawn is available, so bring a blanket, relax under the stars, and enjoy a performance of classical music favorites led by the orchestra’s new Music Advisor Taras Krysa. Las Vegas-based flutist Carmella Cao will be the featured soloist, performing the beloved Mozart Flute Concerto in D major.

Program

Verdi: Overture to the opera Nabucco

Mozart: Flute Concerto in D major, Carmella Cao, soloist

DvoÅ™ák:  Symphony No. 8 in G major

The program opens with the dramatic and immediately recognizable overture to Giuseppe Verdi’s opera Nabucco, famous for its grand, sweeping melodies.  Maestro Krysa will also conduct DvoÅ™ák’s Symphony No. 8, one of the composer’s most lyric and joyful symphonies. Its pastoral and folk-inspired nature reflect the composer’s love of nature and his native Czech music traditions. DvoÅ™ák’s colorful use of the orchestra has made this symphony an audience favorite.

Ms. Cao will perform Wolfgang Mozart’s Flute Concerto in D, which showcases the composer’s genius for elegant and effortless melody. Although it is widely performed today as a flute concerto, the work began its life as a concerto for the oboe. Mozart created this marvelous arrangement for flute in response to a commission from a famous soloist. Unfortunately for Mozart, the commissioner realized this wasn’t an all-new concerto, and poor Mozart never received his commission.

Soloist

Carmella Cao, flute
