Henderson, NEV – The Henderson Symphony Orchestra (HSO) in partnership with the City of Henderson (COH) presents its upcoming movie concert, “The Princess Bride” In Concert at the Water Street Plaza on October 7 at 8 p.m. Admission is free.
Celebrate the fantasy film’s 35th anniversary with a viewing of the movie as the HSO performs composer Mark Knopfler’s unforgettable score, which has been specially arranged for symphony orchestra.
Directed by Rob Reiner, “The Princess Bride” features an all-star cast including Robin Wright, Cary Elwes, Wallace Shawn, Mandy Patinkin, Chris Sarandon, Billy Crystal, Carol Kane, Christopher Guest, Fred Savage and André the Giant.
The great Peter Falk narrates this romantic tale of the beautiful maiden, Buttercup, and her one true love, a young farm hand named Westley. After he’s captured by a ruthless pirate and presumed dead, Buttercup’s unhappy marriage to the horrible Prince Humperdinck seems inevitable. But before the wedding can take place, she’s kidnapped by three outlaws and it’s up to a mysterious Man in Black to come to her rescue.
“We love putting together family-friendly performances and what better than ‘The Princess Bride,’ one of the most beloved films of all time,” said Alexandra Arrieche, Henderson Symphony Orchestra’s Music Director. “We have already performed all of the Charlie Chaplin movies, as well as ‘The Wizard of Oz,’ ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind,’ ‘Metropolis’ and ‘Coco;’ so this felt like a really good fit.”
The Henderson Symphony Orchestra is the Silver State’s only community symphony orchestra that has been performing for 35 seasons delivering on its mission to promote Classical Music appreciation and education to a varied and diverse audience, and to elevate the southern Nevada art scene.
The HSO will also perform a Masquerade Ball, City of Henderson Veteran’s Day Ceremony concert, and Holiday Jukebox as part of its season culminating in June 2023.
